Calis Beach & Koca Calis

With plenty of restaurants to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice, but wherever you choose to eat along the promenade you will see one of the spectacular world famous sunsets.

During the day, why not wander down to the Birlik bar on the beach where you will be well looked after by the staff, enjoy good food and drinks and have free use of their sunbeds.  Very often they have Turkish belly dancing nights, creating a wonderful typically Turkish atmosphere.

Boat Trips around the Turquoise Coast

There are many boat trips to choose from ranging from 1/2 day, full day and evening cruises, most of which include food  There is a large number of boats to choose from - just take a walk along the harbour at Fethiye to make your choice or book one with the In-Resort team.  The first photograph is of Claire on the 12 Islands cruise - she was our very first guest at Villa Katife in June 2005 along with five friends.  The next three photographs are of the cruise we took to Gocek, stopping off at three different places on the way for a swim.  It was a wonderful day and we spent a couple of hours at Gocek, browsing round the market and sitting at a waterside cafe watching the world go by.

You will be spoilt for choice with the trips on offer, but they are all good value for money and enjoyable.

Saklikent Gorge

If you had to choose only one day out during your holiday, then Saklikent Gorge must be a consideration.  You could spend the whole day and evening here and enjoy both fun and relaxation.  Saklikent Gorge (Hidden Valley) is the longest, deepest gorge in Turkey.  It is 18km long and it is so deep the sun never penetrates the water - it is beautiful and fascinating but impossible to reach the end of the canyon.  Jump onto one of the rubber rings and take a journey down the river.  The restaurants provide comprehensive menus and the food is delicious.  Sitting on cushions at low tables suspended over the river is so relaxing, in fact so much, so that we were all lulled to sleep by the sound of the water.  Why not stay for the evening entertainment in the River Bar where there is always a great atmosphere and music - for the young and young at heart you could party all night!!

Tlos

The 19th century archaeologist Charles Fellows who rediscovered Tlos, and several other nearby sites, had this to say about the approach to Tlos.

"The whole ride down this upper valley is beautiful and varies continually; it's scenery, on approaching the bold Greek like situation of the ancient city of Tlos, is strikingly picturesque."

Patara

Patara beach, an 18 km long strip of sand bordered by mountains and sand dunes  is voted one of the best beaches in the world.  It is a national park and the breeding ground of the endangered loggerhead turtle.  It is only a 10 minute stroll from some of the larger ruins and is never crowded.  It is totally unspoilt by tourism and the only commercial venture here is one small tea house selling snacks.

In Christian history Patara is famous for being a place of St. Paul’s missionary work at the end of his third missionary journey as he changed ships on route to Jerusalem.  Patara was also the birthplace of St. Nicholas (c.300 AD), bishop of Myra and the future Santa Claus.

One (of many) legends about Patara tells that a Spanish girl was carrying of  “patara”, a bowl of cakes, which she intended to give to Apollo.  She dropped the bowl and it floated ashore to the city, giving it its name.

Fethiye

Fethiye is a lively cosmopolitan town of great beauty and charm  where Turkish life and tourism exist side by side.  The harbour is a pleasant place to spend the evening and there is a wide selection of restaurants to choose from, both down in the harbour and in the narrow streets of the town.  The bazaar on Tuesdays is the biggest in the area and is a great place for bargain hunters.  Here you can buy everything from herbs and spices to "designer" clothes, rugs, hand-crafted jewellery and, of course, the famous Turkish Delight.  Stop and enjoy a pancake

Fethiye has several remarkable ancient sites, the most conspicuous being the rock tombs carved into the hillside above the town.
